All over the world, millions of people play the piano — some for years, some just starting out; some taking lessons, some going it alone; some reading from the score, some playing by ear. What they share is a journey into the world of music, undertaken by means of one of the most versatile instruments ever invented: one that can be played solo or with others, in almost any style, performing what others have written or what they themselves create.
To feel good about how they play, and to keep improving, people need encouragement, strategies, and inspiration. That is the purpose of pianonoborders — a growing collection of ideas and resources drawn from my years of learning and teaching the piano, reflecting on the physical, mental, and personal challenges we all face in trying to raise our level. It is built on the belief that there really are no borders when it comes to the piano: no borders between musical styles, and — perhaps most importantly — no borders between what any of us can achieve today and what remains possible tomorrow.
This space is growing gradually, and will eventually include a toolbox of problem-solving exercises, further practice material, a collection of my own teaching repertoire, and miscellaneous thoughts on piano playing from A to Z — for teachers, students, and anyone looking for a little extra input on their own pianistic journey
